Ontario’s first French-language public high school

Vanier is the location of Ontario’s first French-language public high school: the École secondaire André-Laurendeau, which opens in 1969. Some fifty years later, Ottawa has roughly fifteen French-language high schools funded by the province. The École secondaire André-Laurendeau has been closed since 2001.
